Introduction
The concept of free will is a fundamental aspect of human nature, and it plays a crucial role in God’s plan of redemption. From the beginning, God desired to be in fellowship and community with humanity, but sin and free will disrupted this reality. However, God in His infinite wisdom and sovereignty unfolded a plan to redeem humanity through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Threefold Framework of Redemption
God’s redemption plan is multifaceted and accommodates the consequences of humanity’s free will. It can be understood in three important ways:
1. Jesus Christ: The Only Way Back to God: God made Jesus Christ the only way back to Him, emphasizing the exclusivity of salvation through faith in Christ (John 14:6). This underscores the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ for reconciliation with God.
2. Jesus Christ: The Daily Bread for Nourishment: Jesus is also the daily bread for nourishment in our journey back to God (John 6:35). This highlights the importance of feeding on the Word of God and partaking in the sacrament of communion to sustain our spiritual lives.
3. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ: Eternal Life and Lordship: The resurrection of Jesus Christ exemplifies the eternal life that awaits believers and establishes His Lordship forever (Acts 2:36). This demonstrates God’s power over death and sin, and provides a foundation for hope and confidence in our own resurrection and eternal life with God.
Accepting God’s Redemption Plan
Whoever desires to accept God’s redemption plan can do so by investing their free will in the finished work of Jesus Christ and His life of resurrection in God. This involves:
– Faith in Jesus Christ: Trusting in Jesus Christ as the only way to God and the source of eternal life.
– Following Jesus Christ: Investing one’s free will in following Jesus Christ, obeying His teachings, and living according to His example.
– Living in the Power of the Resurrection: Experiencing the power of the resurrection in daily life, and living in the hope and confidence of eternal life with God.
Conclusion
In conclusion, God’s redemption plan accommodates the consequences of humanity’s free will and provides a framework for reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. By understanding the threefold framework of redemption and investing our free will in the finished work of Jesus Christ, we can experience the fullness of God’s love and salvation.
