Every truth and experience in the universe fits into one of five basic layers of existence. Any other perceived reality is simply an illusion, shadow, or reflection of these core truths.

All other forms of human thought, philosophy, or alternate realities do not truly stand on their own. They are merely illusions, misunderstandings, or reflections of these five foundational truths. When we look past the surface, every part of life points back to God’s eternal plan.

The Unshakable Foundation: Understanding the Eternal Existence of God

God’s eternal existence stands as the ultimate truth from which all other realities flow. It is not merely a component of the universe, but the very source that allows anything else to exist. To understand the nature of reality, one must begin with this uncaused, unchanging First Cause.

The Foundation of All Reality

Every physical object, laws of physics, and stretch of time has a dependency. The physical universe operates on a chain of cause and effect. However, this chain cannot extend backward forever; it requires an ultimate anchor.

God is that anchor. His existence is independent, meaning He does not rely on anything outside of Himself to exist. Because He is self-existent, His being serves as the fundamental bedrock for everything else. Without this foundational existence, no other layer of reality—neither the original creation, the fallen world, nor the process of redemption—could ever come into being.

Sovereignty with No Time Limits

Human beings are tightly bound by the constraints of time. We measure our lives in seconds, years, and generations, constantly moving from a past we cannot change into an uncertain future.

God operates under entirely different parameters:

God’s lordship over time means He stands completely above it, yet retains the absolute freedom to enter into human history to interact with His creation.

The Realm of Pure Eternity

Eternity is often misunderstood as just a very long timeline, but true eternity is the complete absence of temporal limits. Time itself is a created boundary, tailored for the physical universe. God does not live inside an environment called eternity; rather, eternity is a definition of His very mode of being.

The Bible highlights this reality from its opening words, “In the beginning God…” showing that He existed long before recorded time began. He is the ever-existing “I AM” who remains fully present across every moment of human history simultaneously.

The Dependency of All Other Realities

When we analyze the entire spectrum of existence, a clear pattern emerges. Every subsequent reality is contingent upon the first:

If the eternal existence of God is the ultimate foundation of reality, then the original creation is the masterpiece painted upon it. It represents the second level of existence—a magnificent, tangible realm spoken into being by a self-sufficient Creator.

Unlike God, who exists outside the boundaries of time and space, creation is defined by its parameters. To fully grasp this layer of reality, we must examine its distinct origin, its temporary framework, and the absolute perfection of its initial design.

A Defined Start: The Genesis of Space and Time

The most fundamental distinction between God and the universe is that creation has a definite beginning. It is not an eternal, self-sustaining entity that always was, nor did it emerge from pre-existing matter. 

An Eventual End: The Bound Nature of the Cosmos

Because the original creation is a bound reality, it is designed with an eventual end. It does not possess the infinite, immortal quality of its Creator. 

Science and theology converge on the truth that the physical universe, in its current form, is not meant to last forever. The laws that govern physical matter dictate that everything within the material world moves toward a conclusion. Just as a book has a first page, it must eventually have a final chapter. 

The physical universe operates under constraints that prove it had a beginning, and those same constraints point toward an ultimate cessation of its current processes. Heaven and earth as we know them will pass away to make room for what comes next in God’s master plan. 

Absolute Perfection: The Untainted Origin

When God drew the boundaries of the cosmos, He did not build a flawed system. The original creation was characterized by absolute perfection.

In the Genesis account, as God completed each stage of formatting the earth—separating light from darkness, forming the seas, and generating life—He paused to evaluate His work. Upon completing the entire ecosystem and placing humanity within it, God declared that it was “indeed very good.” 

In the original Hebrew context, this declaration of “good” translates to structural and moral flawlessness. 

This untainted state is the standard of reality as God intended it to be. It was a world devoid of the fractures, limitations, and pain that characterize our daily experience today. 

The Reality vs. The Illusion

Understanding the original creation prevents us from falling into two major cultural illusions:

The original creation reminds us that the universe is a masterpiece, but it is not the Artist. It is beautiful, perfect, and orderly, yet it remains a secondary reality that completely relies on the eternal voice of God to hold its atoms together.

When we look at the world today, we see a striking contradiction. The earth is filled with breathtaking beauty, yet it is simultaneously plagued by tragedy, disaster, and heartbreak. This paradox exists because we no longer live in the pristine reality of God’s original creation. Instead, we live in the third layer of existence: the fallen creation.

This current state of the universe is a stark reality, but it is not the ultimate reality. It is a corrupted phase of history defined by a specific origin point, universal restrictions, and a massive spiritual divide.

The Entry of Sin: A Historical Shift

The reality of the fallen creation did not exist eternally. It had a definitive, catastrophic beginning point.

As detailed in the accounts of Genesis 3, this reality began the exact moment humanity chose rebellion over relationship. When Adam and Eve defied God’s singular boundary, sin entered the pristine environment of the universe.

Sin is often defined as “missing the mark” or failing to reflect the character of God. It was not a minor mistake; it was an act of treason that completely shifted the atmosphere of existence. The moment sin was introduced, it acted like a drop of poison in a clean glass of water, instantly altering the structural integrity of the entire created order.

New Limitations: The Birth of Brokenness

The immediate consequence of this rebellion was the introduction of severe, unyielding boundaries. The original creation was built for endless vitality, but the fallen creation operates under universal limitations.

Sin did not just damage human hearts; it fractured the fabric of the universe itself. The introduction of sin fundamentally altered human nature and biology. The Fall brought a wave of destructive constraints that we experience every day:

Death and separation were never part of God’s natural blueprint; they are invaders. Humanity lost its open access to the divine presence, leaving the entire world spiritually darkened and longing for a way back across the divide.

Living inside a fallen world makes it easy to fall into the illusion that this brokenness is normal. Secular philosophies often teach that suffering, survival of the fittest, and death are simply standard laws of nature.

The framework of the five realities exposes this as a lie. This broken world is not the way things are supposed to be, nor is it the way things will always remain. The fallen creation is a temporary, restricted phase of existence. It is a reality, but it is a damaged one—an underlying canvas that prepares human history for the necessity of divine intervention.

Human history is not moving in a meaningless circle, nor is it hurtling toward total annihilation. Instead, it is marching toward a glorious finish line. Restoration is the ultimate destination of the universe. It is a distinct reality within the fabric of existence, defined by a magnificent homecoming, a permanent reversal of the Fall, and a return to absolute unity with the Creator.

Unlike the eternal, unchanging existence of God, the reality of restoration has a specific beginning point. It is a future event anchored in prophecy that will fundamentally reset physical and spiritual existence.

Final Purpose: Undoing the Damage of the Fall

The core objective of this fifth reality is to completely undo the damage caused by the entry of sin. It is the ultimate reversal of the systemic brokenness that fractured our world.

When sin entered the ecosystem, it introduced a catastrophic wave of decay, physical pain, and death. The final purpose of restoration is to systematically eradicate these invaders.

The five basic realities of existence shatter this pessimistic illusion. History is not sliding into a black hole; it is accelerating toward a glorious renewal. The restoration of all things ensures that the original goodness God intended for His creation will have the absolute final word.
