Fellowship with the Presence of God: Cultivating Awareness and Experience

As believers, we take comfort in the promise of Jesus Christ, Immanuel, who assured us that He would never leave us alone or forsake us. Our God is a promise-keeping God, and His presence is always with us. However, the issue lies not with His presence, but with our awareness and experience of it.

To grow spiritually, we must develop an increasing awareness of God’s presence in our lives. This requires a willingness to slow down, sense His presence, and open ourselves to His Spirit. We must become like a sponge, allowing the water of God’s presence to alter the very essence of our being, rather than remaining hard and dry like a rock.

One powerful way to cultivate this awareness is through Scripture. Take Zephaniah 3:17, for example: “The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing” (CSB). Read it, write it down, repeat it over and over, and open every pore of your soul to God’s presence.

As you meditate on this verse, allow the truth to sink deep into your heart. Sense the joy and delight of God’s presence. Feel His quiet love and gentle singing over you. Permit yourself to be fully immersed in His presence, like a sponge soaking up the ocean’s waters.

In this way, you will begin to experience the fellowship of God’s presence, and your spiritual growth will flourish. Remember, God’s presence is not something we must strive to attain; it is already with us. Our task is to become aware of it, to open ourselves to it, and to experience the transformative power of His love. One of the key signatures of our awareness of the Presence of God and our connection to Him in fellowship is that the decibel level of our joy is over 60 and we sound it on repeat to the world daily, not just during Christmas season!
