Introduction
God’s concern for the oppressed is a recurring theme throughout the Holy Scriptures. From Moses to the present day, God’s mandate to free the enslaved and oppressed remains unchanged. This article explores God’s process and timing in granting freedom, highlighting the importance of faith in trusting His plan.
Exodus: God’s Rescue Plan
In Exodus 3:7, God reveals His awareness of Israel’s misery in Egypt, declaring His intention to rescue them and bring them into a good and spacious land (v. 8). Moses, a humble shepherd, was chosen to be the mouthpiece for God’s liberation plan (v. 10).
Faith and Timing
Though God’s timing may not align with our expectations, His promise to free the oppressed remains certain. As Psalm 77:20 states, God led His people like a flock through the hands of Moses and Aaron. Similarly, God will use human instruments to execute His liberation plan.
Hope and Liberation
God’s desire to announce freedom to the oppressed is evident throughout Scripture. In Exodus 3:7, God sees the misery of His people; in Psalm 78:70-71, David is chosen to care for God’s people; and in Acts 7:30, Moses’ four decades of shepherding prepare him to lead Israel out of Egypt.
Conclusion
Freedom from injustice and oppression is a Godly mandate. While God’s timing may not be immediate, His intention to announce freedom to the oppressed is clear. May our faith trust in His plan, and may we participate in His work of liberation.
