Introduction

God’s desire for worship and relationship with humanity has been a recurring theme throughout history. From creation to the present day, God has shaped and formed His temples and His people to bring glory and honor to Himself. This article explores how God formed man in creation, shaped the tabernacle in the Old Testament, and reshaped humanity in Jesus Christ, serving as an example of how He wants to shape us for His indwelling and sanctification.

Creation: God’s Original Design

In Genesis 1:26-27, God created man in His own image, forming him from the dust of the ground. This original design was meant to reflect God’s glory and honor, with humanity living in harmony with Him.

The Tabernacle: A Shaped Temple for Worship

Exodus 25-31 provides detailed instructions for building the tabernacle, a symbol of God’s dwelling among His people. Each element, from the altar of burnt offering to the ark of the covenant, held significant meaning and purpose. The tabernacle’s design taught the Israelites about God’s character and love.

Jesus Christ: The Reshaped Temple

In Jesus, we see the ultimate example of God’s shaping and forming. The second Adam, Jesus, reconciled humanity to God through His life, death, and resurrection. Hebrews 7-9 highlights Jesus’ role as our high priest, allowing us to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.

The Church: God’s New Temple

Today, God’s temple is no longer a physical structure but His people, indwelled by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 and 2 Corinthians 6:16 remind us that we are God’s temple, set apart for His dwelling. Our very being is to be a tabernacle set apart for Him to dwell in.

Conclusion

God’s design for worship and relationship has been consistent throughout history. From creation to the present day, God has shaped and formed His temples and His people to bring glory and honor to Himself. May our worship and lives reflect the significance of God’s shaping and forming, and may we continue to be transformed into the image of Christ.
