The Challenging Road to 80

The Challenging Road to 80

Reaching the age of 70 is a significant milestone in life. I am grateful to have achieved this milestone in 2022. However, from this point on, the journey to 80 can be treacherous. According to statistics, only 44% of people can cross the threshold of 70 and embark on the road to 80.

This decade, from 70 to 80, is a critical period in life. It’s a time of accelerated aging, where organs degenerate and wear out, making the body more susceptible to diseases. The immune system weakens, making it harder to fight off infections. Minor illnesses become more frequent, and major illnesses can strike at any time.

My doctor recently shared a sobering reality with me: despite being in great health with no chronic diseases, my immune system’s ability to fight off bacteria and viruses has likely been compromised due to its natural decline and mutation. Although I feel vibrant and manage minor aches and pains through stretching and exercise, my doctor cautioned me not to be complacent. The presence of bacteria in my system, he warned, could be an early warning sign of impending health issues.

His advice? Be proactive. But can I actually upgrade my immune system or combat the bacterial infection? Unfortunately, he didn’t have a definitive answer. I’ll have to wait until January 2025 for further guidance and advice.

During this period, cognitive decline and physical frailty can lead to accidents, such as dizziness, choking, collisions, and falls. The loss of loved ones and friends can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and isolation. Moreover, some individuals may experience debilitating conditions, such as dementia, amnesia, or the loss of independence. A few of my close relatives are experiencing these maladies already.

A Calm and Resilient Approach

In the face of these challenges, it’s essential to adopt a calm and resilient approach to life. This includes:

– Embracing a calmer mentality and spirit
– Pursuing fewer goals and desires
– Lowering expectations and standards
– Moving at a slower and more deliberate pace
– Engaging in regular exercise and physical activity
– Practicing moderation in food and drink

A New Perspective on Life

Reaching the age of 75 is a significant achievement, marking the halfway point in the most challenging decade of life. For me, it’s two years to go, three more to come! At this stage, one’s peers have dwindled, and the actual life expectancy has reached the national average in the United States.

As one approaches the end of life’s journey, it’s essential to adopt a new perspective. Life is no longer about achieving grand goals or accumulating wealth. Instead, it’s about cherishing each day, living in the present, and making the most of the time that remains.

– Do not regret yesterday
– Do not gamble with tomorrow
– Cherish today
– Live every day well

My recent embracing of the lifestyle of a living witness for Jesus Christ has made a significant difference in my outlook. I now live daily by the dictum of Philippians 1:21: “To live is Christ, to die is gain.”

In conclusion, the road to 80 is fraught with challenges, but with a calm and resilient approach, one can navigate these difficulties and find a new perspective on life.

All is well sir. If the strength of Moses at 80 was potent I trust God to keep you safe and sound above any debilitating process in Jesus name. May you be continually strong in the Lord for His glory as you age gratefully Daddy.
