The Deadly Dangers of Lust: A Personal Testimony

As I reflect on my journey towards holiness and my desire to make the first resurrection, I have come to realize the devastating impact of lust on my spiritual life. I have learned firsthand that it is impossible to engage in Holy Spirit-driven ministry while harboring lust in my heart, especially towards women.
My struggles with lust led me down a path of spiritual dryness and disconnection from God’s presence. I experienced a significant decline in my spiritual and physical energy, and I felt chased out of God’s presence. It was as if God had shut down my supply lines, and I was left feeling empty and powerless.
The essay by John Piper resonated deeply with me, as it highlighted the seriousness of lust and its consequences. Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:29, “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell,” became a stark reality for me.
I realized that I had to make war against lust, rather than making peace with it. The stakes are too high, and the consequences of not fighting lust are eternal. I have learned to take my soul seriously and to keep up the fight against lust, knowing that God’s grace is available to help me overcome.
If you, like me, struggle with lust, I urge you to take heed of Jesus’ warning. Let us resolve to fight lust with the seriousness it deserves, knowing that our souls are at stake. May God give us the grace to overcome and to pursue holiness with all our hearts.
