However, unbeknownst to them, they were merely instruments in God’s hands, used to fulfill His verdict against Eli and his erring children (1 Samuel 3:11-12).

The Philistines, buoyed by their victory, took the Ark to their city and placed it in the temple of their idol, Dagon. They likely believed that with the Ark in their possession, the God of Israel would now work in their favor.
