Introduction
As I walked in stillness, the Holy Spirit revealed the truth about faith and works, citing James 2:17. This passage has sparked many questions among believers, but the Spirit unfolded its meaning, taking me on a journey through creation, from Adam to redemption.
The Eternal God
Before creation, God existed, eternally present and active (Genesis 1:1). He performed various functions, administering operations solo (Isaiah 44:24). As a spirit being, God created everything, including Adam and faith (John 1:3).
Adam: From Dead to Living
Adam was initially dead, but God breathed life into him, making him a living soul (Genesis 2:7). Adam received the motion of the Spirit and inherited God’s image, enabling him to work like God (Genesis 1:26-27).
Faith: From Dead to Living
Faith, like Adam, was created as a seed, dead and in need of redemption (1 Peter 1:21). God breathed life into faith, making it a living plant, requiring nurturing and care (Matthew 13:1-23). Believers, by faith, work with God, allowing Him to harvest righteousness and souls (Philippians 2:12-13).
Works Apart from Faith
Any work done apart from faith is worthless, like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:12). God honors faith-filled works, breathing life into them, making them fruitful (Hebrews 11:1).
Conclusion
The Holy Spirit revealed that faith, like Adam, begins as a dead seed, requiring God’s breath to become a living, fruitful plant. Believers, by faith, work with God, allowing Him to harvest righteousness and souls. May our works be rooted in faith, honoring God’s redemption plan.
