In Romans 14:23, the apostle Paul writes, “Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin” (ESV). This verse highlights the significance of faith in our decision-making processes. Any action or choice that is not rooted in faith is considered sin.

In the context of business decisions, this verse has profound implications. Making decisions based on best practices within the law is considered good. Moreover our decisions must also be made with an eye towards God and His glory. So, we must not allow ourselves to be corrupted or compromised.

As the scripture says, “whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31, ESV). This verse emphasizes that our actions, including business decisions, should be made to glorify God.

Sacrificial decision making and the pursuit of holiness by faith require us to forgo what we desire for an outcome that aligns with God’s will. As Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him” (ESV).

In conclusion, our decisions, including business ones, should be guided by faith and a desire to glorify God. We cannot glorify God, when we prioritize our desires or preferences over doing what we believe to be right and proper. Sometimes, alignment with professional standards in decision making is a choice to obey God. As Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men” (NASB).
