In a world where imperfections are often seen as flaws, it’s refreshing to consider the concept of “imperfectly perfect.” A handmade ceramic tile, for instance, may have unique imperfections that add to its charm and character. Similarly, as believers, our imperfections can become the means by which we perfectly reflect God’s glory. But how is this possible? The answer lies in the uniqueness of our perfectly perfect Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Perfection of Jesus Christ

Jesus, in His incarnation, was perfectly perfect. The writer of Hebrews affirms that Jesus was tempted in every way, just as we are, yet He did not sin (Hebrews 4:15). At no time during His earthly journey did Jesus speak a sinful word or commit a sinful act. He is the embodiment of perfection, and His perfect life, death, and resurrection provide the basis for our salvation.

The Imperfections of Humanity

Unlike Jesus, we are imperfect. We struggle with sin, weaknesses, and limitations. Our imperfections can lead to feelings of inadequacy, shame, and guilt. However, as believers, we are called to see our imperfections in a different light. Our unique flaws and weaknesses can become the means by which we perfectly reflect God’s glory.

How Jesus Makes Us Imperfectly Perfect

So, how does Jesus take our imperfections and make us imperfectly perfect? The answer lies in His perfect work on the cross. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus provides us with a new identity, one that is rooted in His perfection. As we trust in Him, our imperfections are covered by His perfect righteousness.

Moreover, Jesus empowers us to live imperfectly perfect lives through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit helps us to see our imperfections as opportunities for growth, rather than as sources of shame. He enables us to love and serve others, despite our flaws, and to reflect God’s glory in our unique ways.

The Encouragement of Hebrews

The book of Hebrews encourages us to “hold firmly to the faith we profess” in Jesus (Hebrews 4:14). We can do so because Jesus understands and empathizes with our struggles. He has been there and done that—but perfectly. Our perfectly perfect Savior can help us with all things, and His perfection is the basis for our imperfectly perfect lives.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the uniqueness of our perfectly perfect Savior, Jesus Christ, is that He can take our imperfections and make us imperfectly perfect. Through His perfect work on the cross and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit, we can live imperfectly perfect lives that reflect God’s glory. As we trust in Jesus and see our imperfections in a new light, we can experience the freedom and joy of being imperfectly perfect in Him.
