Introductionย
As believers, we are often faced with the question of what it means to live a life of faith in Jesus Christ. In John 16:16-24, Jesus shares with His disciples the promise of a life filled with joy, despite the challenges and hardships they would face.
The Pursuit of Happiness
In today’s world, the pursuit of happiness is a universal desire. We all want to feel happy and fulfilled. However, happiness can be fleeting and dependent on our circumstances. As the self-help guru mentioned, “God wants you to be happy,” but is that really the ultimate goal?
A Deeper Joy
Jesus offers us something more profound than happiness. He promises us a joy that cannot be taken away, a joy that is rooted in our relationship with Him. This joy is not dependent on our circumstances but on our obedience to God’s will.
Seeking God’s Kingdom
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to “seek first [God’s] kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we prioritize God’s kingdom and righteousness, we experience a joy that is not fleeting but enduring.
A Life of Faith
So, what does it mean to live a life of faith in Jesus Christ? It means trusting in His promises, obeying His commands, and seeking His kingdom above all else. It means experiencing a joy that is not dependent on our circumstances but on our relationship with Him.
Conclusion
As we navigate the challenges of life, let us remember that our ultimate goal is not happiness but joy. Let us seek to deepen our relationship with Jesus, to obey His commands, and to prioritize His kingdom. For in doing so, we will experience a joy that is truly wonderful, a joy that cannot be taken away.
