Introduction
Future grace is a powerful concept that can transform our understanding of God’s role in our lives. By recognizing that God’s grace is not just a past event, but a present and future reality, we can tap into a low-risk investment that produces banking of grace with huge capacity and tremendous footprint. This realization can enable ambitious exploits for the Lord, just as it did for Apostle Paul.
Paul’s Reliance on Future Grace
In 1 Corinthians 15:10, Paul writes, “By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.” Paul emphasizes that his obedience and work are not just a result of gratitude for past grace, but rather a moment-by-moment reliance on the arrival of promised future grace.
The Decisive Cause of Paul’s Work
Paul wants to exalt the moment-by-moment grace of God as the decisive cause of his work. He acknowledges that he himself is not the sole doer of his work, but rather, God’s grace is the enabling power that empowers him to work. This is evident in his statement, “Though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”
Banking on Future Grace
Paul’s approach to ministry is characterized by his reliance on future grace. He faces each day’s burden with confidence in God’s promise to supply every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). By trusting in future grace, Paul is able to act with all his might, knowing that God’s grace will enable him to accomplish His work.
Lessons for Us
From Paul’s example, we can learn the importance of relying on future grace in our own lives. By recognizing that God’s grace is a low-risk investment that produces huge capacity and tremendous footprint, we can:
– Trust in God’s promises: We can trust that God will supply every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
– Act with confidence: We can act with confidence, knowing that God’s grace will enable us to accomplish His work.
– Rely on moment-by-moment grace: We can rely on God’s moment-by-moment grace to empower us to work and live for Him.
Conclusion
In conclusion, future grace is a powerful reality that can transform our lives and empower us to accomplish God’s work. By recognizing the decisive role of God’s grace in our lives, we can trust in His promises, act with confidence, and rely on moment-by-moment grace to enable us to live for Him.
