Introduction
The love and compassion that believers display through good deeds and generosity are the natural fruit of the Holy Spirit’s transforming work within us. Grounded in our identity in Christ, we are called to hold all we have as stewards, living as willing channels of His blessing.
The Transformative Work of the Gospel
As the Book of Hebrews 10:19-25 teaches, our ability to love and serve others is directly tied to the finished work of Christ. Because of His sacrifice, we are invited to draw near to God with a sincere heart and full assurance of faith. This spiritual rebirth fundamentally changes us. It aligns our hearts with the heart of God, giving us a genuine desire to reflect His character to the world. As believers, this transformation compels us to care for one another and to be generous, acting out of the new nature we have received.
Understanding the World’s Perspective
Living as a channel of blessing does not always mean the world will understand your actions. In our walk of faith, we may encounter those who cannot discern the spiritual motivation behind displays of care and generosity.
“Pointless Generosity”: There are times when onlookers will label your acts of kindness as pointless or foolish simply because they lack a strategic, self-serving intent.
Unfounded Aspirations: Sometimes people will attribute ulterior motives to expressions of care, projecting their own worldly aspirations onto your efforts to enhance another’s welfare. However, as believers, we must not let the confusion or skepticism of others dictate our behavior or cause us to search for reasons why we should behave like God. Once we embrace our identity in Him, behaving in a loving and compassionate manner becomes our natural response. We are no longer governed by the world’s transactional mindset, but by the love of Christ.
Embracing the Role of “God’s Treasury”Everything we possess—our time, talents, and resources—comes from God and is designed to serve His purposes and bless the Body of Christ. Because we recognize this, we must learn to hold whatever we have loosely, viewing it as a sacred stewardship responsibility rather than personal ownership. When we operate with this mindset, we fulfill the scriptural encouragement: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24, NIV). We become righteous vehicles of His righteousness. Whether others understand our actions or not, God knows our hearts, and through Him, we share a renewed, vibrant relationship. We are simply acting in our true identity as children of God, allowing Him to use us to bless those around us.
