June 7, 2024
Introduction:
In Romans 6, Apostle Paul addresses the misconception that grace grants a license to sin. He emphatically rejects this notion, emphasizing that genuine faith in Jesus Christ cultivates a desire for holiness and obedience. This article explores the facets of a life built on faith in grace, examining past, current, and future grace, and offering guidance for a holy acumen in practicing a grace-driven life.
Past Grace: Justification (Romans 3:24-25, Titus 3:7)
Justification by faith in Jesus Christ grants forgiveness and redemption, liberating us from sin’s dominion.
Current Grace: Sanctification (2 Corinthians 12:9, Philippians 2:12-13)
Sanctification is the ongoing process of transformation, empowering us to live a life pleasing to God.
Future Grace: Glorification (Romans 8:29-30, 1 Corinthians 15:52-53)
Glorification promises our ultimate transformation, conforming us to Christ’s image.
The Spectrum of Faith:
While grace is abundant, our response varies. Some may view grace as a license to sin (Romans 6:1-2), while others strive for holiness (Hebrews 12:14). The reality lies in between, with most believers oscillating between these extremes.
Guidance for a Holy Acumen:
1. Acknowledge God’s sovereignty (Psalm 115:3).
2. Embrace grace as a transformative force (2 Corinthians 5:17).
3. Cultivate a desire for holiness (Hebrews 12:14).
4. Practice ongoing obedience (John 14:15).
5. Seek spiritual disciplines (Acts 2:42-47).
Conclusion:
A life built on faith in grace in Christ Jesus is a journey, not a destination. By understanding past, current, and future grace, we can navigate the spectrum of faith, pursuing a holy acumen that honors God. As Apostle Paul declares, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:11-12).
