Tribute to Julius Adebayo Onietan: A Silent Hero and Dear Friend

Today, I mourn the loss of a dear friend, Julius Adebayo Onietan, whose passing leaves an unfillable void in my life. Our friendship, forged during our formative years, has been a source of inspiration, comfort, and strength.

I still vividly recall our time together at Government Secondary School, Okene, where Julius generously shared his lecture notes and patiently answered my questions in geography as I prepared for my University of London General Certificate of Education examinations. His unwavering support and encouragement were a beacon of hope during a period when others doubted my academic pursuits.

Julius’s kindness, generosity, and compassion were qualities that defined his character. Our friendship deepened during holidays spent in Kabba, where his warmth and hospitality made me feel like family. Though we lost touch after I returned to the US, memories of our time together remained etched in my heart.

The Yoruba proverb, “The mountain over here obscures the mountain over there,” aptly describes how life’s journey can cause us to lose sight of one another. Yet, the news of Julius’s passing brought back a flood of memories, reminding me of the profound impact he had on my life.

As I reflect on Julius’s life, I am reminded of the importance of living a life of purpose, kindness, and generosity. His legacy will continue to inspire me, and I will continue to emulate his example in my own life.

To Julius’s family, I offer my heartfelt condolences. May God comfort you during this difficult time and may Julius’s soul rest in peace.

Farewell, dear Julius. Your friendship, guidance, and support will never be forgotten. May we who remain behind continue to live our lives with purpose, integrity, and compassion, just as you did. Amen.

A TRINBUTE TO MR JULIUS ADEBAYO ONIETAN.
Mr. Julius Adebayo Onietan was a very disciplined, seasoned, hard working, and astute administrator, who rose to the peak of his career, by heading the Prestigious ARMTI, as a director.
I knew him also as a committed Christian to the end, as he served God in various capacities in his church throughout his lifetime.
I can say he that I have know brother Bayo all my life, as we grew up together in the same closely knit community.
When we both discovered that I married one of his closest friends, Prof. Jackson Olusegun Olujide, his joy knew no bounds, and thus,
throughout our adult lives, we have kept pretty close. I and my husband were at the launching of his highly rated book in December 2024. I remember commenting on how he looked great and ever so gentlemanly. God knows why He took him at this time.
Bro Bayo proved to be a very caring, loving, compassionate and loyal friend indeed. He was ever so humble and sensitive to the feelings of others.
My family and I will miss him sorely. We pray for the repose of his gentle soul and the upholding of his lovely family at this trying time. Good night, brother Bayo. Rest in peace
