Introduction
The phrase “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so” by William Shakespeare often resonates with people, suggesting our thoughts shape our experiences. However, as people of faith, we recognize a critical distinction: while our perceptions influence our experiences, they don’t define objective truth.
As a follower of God, I’ve come to understand that good and evil aren’t mere human constructs or subjective opinions. They’re rooted in God’s character and revealed in His Word. This perspective reframes Shakespeare’s insight – our thoughts don’t create reality; they interpret it. God’s truth stands independently of our thinking.

The Authority We Hold
Humans have been given authority, not the power to create reality. How we wield this authority matters. When aligned with God’s will, our thoughts and actions reflect His goodness. When misaligned, we invite chaos. This is where the pursuit of clarity becomes vital – seeking God’s truth to guide our thoughts, values, and actions.
Love as God’s Protocol
For me, love is imitating God, staying within His boundaries and reflecting His attributes like compassion and kindness. This isn’t just a philosophy; it’s tapping into the transformative power of God’s nature. Love becomes an act of will, rooted in God’s character, not fleeting emotions.
Navigating Conflicting Perspectives
When cultural norms or feelings clash with biblical teachings, prioritizing God’s sovereignty is key. Scripture reminds us, “God’s thoughts are not our thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). Recognizing God’s omniscience and our limitations fosters humility – essential for discerning truth.
Living by Faith
Accepting uncertainty, we learn to live by faith, guided by God’s Word. This doesn’t mean having all answers but trusting in God’s guidance. As I’ve pursued clarity and understanding, I’ve found liberation from cluttered thinking and self-justification.
Wisdom in Humility
The more we study, the more we realize our limitations. True wisdom begins with acknowledging God’s sovereignty. Rooting our perspective in Scripture provides assurance, especially when navigating complex issues.
In the end, it’s not about our thoughts making reality but about aligning with God’s unchanging truth. 🙏
