From Despair to Ministry: A Testimony of God’s Sufficiency

In the midst of unimaginable trials, including a devastating house fire from the lightning that struck our home in Columbia, Maryland, and many other personal struggles, I found myself contemplating suicide as a relief. But God had other plans. Through a series of events, including the loss of my wife, I discovered a renewed love and commitment to serve the Body of Christ.
Like Elsie, who wondered why God had spared her life after a cancer diagnosis, I questioned God’s purpose for me. But as I began to serve others through the GIVA Apologetics Ministry, I realized that God’s sufficiency is not dependent on our circumstances or abilities.
In small ways, we can love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). My wife’s decision to liquidate our life insurance policies worth millions of dollars without consulting me was a turning point. Her apology and subsequent passing led to an outpouring of support from the Body of Christ, which became a seed for my renewed commitment to serve.
Like Elsie, I found that giving, even in small ways, multiplies God’s blessings. Through the ministry, God has exemplified His sufficiency in my life, providing a source of contentment and purpose.
Reflecting on my journey, I ask:
– What have you received from God?
– How can you encourage someone in a simple yet meaningful way today?
Dear Father, thank You for Your gifts in my life. Please give me a heart to love others just as You’ve loved me.
In the face of adversity, may we remember that God’s love and sufficiency are not dependent on our circumstances. May we find ways to love and serve others, even in small ways, and experience the virtuous circle of giving and receiving. Amen.
