The Concept and Cycle of Life

Introduction
As I was listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson on 60 Minutes, I engaged in reflection about what might happen to the universe when Jesus Christ returns. This reflection juxtaposes the cycles of life in the universe and humanity, wondering what happens when Jesus Christ returns and the human cycle ends. This article engages you in a thoughtful exploration that others might add to or subtract from:
The Cycle of Life in the Universe and Humanity
Astrophysics studies the life cycles of celestial objects, from birth to death. Stars like our Sun have a lifespan, and their demise transforms the surrounding environment. Similarly, human life follows a cycle: birth, growth, decay, and death.
The Return of Jesus Christ and Humanity’s Cycle
Christian eschatology teaches that Jesus Christ’s return marks the end of humanity’s cycle as we know it. The Bible describes:
1. Resurrection: The dead in Christ rise (1 Corinthians 15:50-54).
2. Judgment: All humanity is judged (Revelation 20:11-15).
3. New Heaven and New Earth: God creates a renewed universe (Revelation 21:1-4).
The Universe’s Cycle After Christ’s Return
The Bible doesn’t explicitly describe the universe’s fate post-Christ’s return. However:
1. Some interpretations suggest a transformed or renewed universe (Romans 8:18-25, Revelation 21:1-4).
2. Others propose the universe’s continuation, with humanity living in harmony with God.
The Cycle of Life in Heaven
Heaven’s nature and dynamics are mysterious, but Scripture hints at:
1. Eternal life: No more death, sorrow, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
2. Timelessness: No birth, growth, or decay (Revelation 10:6).
3. Harmony: Unity with God and fellow believers (Revelation 21:3-4).
Speculative Reflections
Considering the universe’s cycle:
1. Perhaps the universe’s transformation mirrors humanity’s renewal.
2. Alternatively, the universe’s physical laws might remain, with humanity experiencing a new, spiritual reality.
Regarding Heaven’s cycle:
1. Eternal life could imply a dynamic, ever-evolving relationship with God.
2. The absence of time might mean experiences unfold in a non-linear fashion.
Conclusion
While we can’t fully grasp the specifics, Jesus Christ’s return marks a profound shift in humanity’s cycle. The universe’s fate remains uncertain, but Scripture assures us of a transformed, eternal reality in Heaven.
