In the midst of life’s challenges and spiritual battles, it’s easy to lose sight of the one thing that truly matters: our standing before God. As believers, we’re not just fighting against physical enemies, but also against the spiritual forces of darkness, led by the Devil himself. However, the greatest danger we face is not the attacks of the enemy, but rather the danger of losing trust and confidence in the mercy of God.
The Essence of Faith and Trust
Faith and trust are the foundation upon which our relationship with God is built. They’re the confidence we have in God’s character, promises, and faithfulness. When we trust in God, we’re not just trusting in His power or abilities; we’re trusting in His goodness, love, and mercy.
The Danger of Distrust
To distrust God would be a far more terrible thing than any physical evil that all the enemies of God put together could inflict on us. When we lose trust in God’s promises, including His mercies, we run the risk of succumbing to the perils that can haul at us. Distrust can lead to fear, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness, causing us to lose sight of our identity in Christ Jesus.
Our Confidence in God’s Promises
However, as believers, we have a confidence that’s unshakeable. We know that God has promised to add all things we need or desire to our lives (Matthew 6:33). We know that He’s faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We know that He’s our Rock, our Refuge, and our Redeemer (Psalm 18:2).
Proclaiming Our Identity in Christ Jesus
Our confidence to stand before God and proclaim our identity in Christ Jesus is all we really need. We’re not just mere mortals; we’re children of God, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). We’re forgiven, redeemed, and reconciled to God through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
In the face of life’s challenges and spiritual battles, let us remember that our trust and confidence in God’s mercy and promises are the unshakeable foundation upon which we stand. Let us not lose sight of our identity in Christ Jesus, and let us continue to proclaim our confidence in God’s faithfulness and love. For when we trust in God, we can face any challenge or enemy that comes our way, knowing that we’re secure in His love and care.
