Introduction
The journey of faith is rarely a straight line. It is filled with twists, unexpected trials, and moments where we wander, often feeling that our spiritual lives are fragmented. Yet, Scripture suggests a profound, restorative journey that comes full circle, returning us to a place of surrender and intimacy with the Creator. This “full circle” faith is anchored in four profound truths about God’s relationship with us: He is with us in our humanity, for us in our failure, in us by His Spirit, and over us in His glory. To live in this reality is to find the purpose for which we were created: to live in the presence of the King, now and forever.
1. With Us in Our Humanity (Immanuel)
The journey begins with the recognition that God is not a distant deity. He is Immanuel—God with us. In the person of Jesus Christ, God entered human history, sharing our life, suffering with us, and walking among us. This truth means that in our everyday struggles, joys, and mundane tasks, God is present. He knows our frame and understands our humanity because He assumed it. This aspect of the journey invites us to stop striving in our own strength and to realize that God is intimately involved in our lives.
1. For Us in Our Failure (Redemption)
While we were yet sinners and deeply flawed, God was, and is, for us. This is the essence of the gospel: God’s love in action, redeeming us from the wreckage of our choices. When we fail—and we do—His grace is not revoked. The cross demonstrates that God takes on the burden of our failures, nailing our sins to the cross. This “for us” truth means that we are not defined by our shortcomings but by His righteousness. The journey of faith brings us to a point where we trust fully in Him, rather than our own efforts, leading to true peace and a second chance at life.
1. In Us by His Spirit (Transformation)
The journey moves from God beside us to God in us through the Holy Spirit. After Jesus’ ascension, the promise of the indwelling Spirit transformed the disciples from fearful individuals into powerful witnesses. This internal presence is the catalyst for transformation, molding us into the likeness of Jesus Christ. It is not a work we do for God, but a work He does in us, allowing us to bear the fruit of the Spirit and act with His authority. The Spirit guides, convicts, and enables us to live out our divine purpose.
1. Over Us in His Glory (Majesty)
Finally, the God who is with us, for us, and in us is the same God who stands over us in His supreme glory. He is transcendent—Wholly Other, sovereign over all creation, omnipotent, and eternal. Recognizing this brings us to a place of awe, reverence, and humility. Yet, this is not a terrifying distance. Rather, the promise is that we will be enveloped in His splendor, experiencing the full power and purity of His presence for eternity.
Coming Full Circle
To live in this reality is to have our faith journey “come full circle”. We return to a childlike, unconditional trust in the Father, but with a matured, deeper understanding of His love. It is a life where:
The past is surrendered: We no longer trust in our own righteousness.
The present is purposeful: Every moment is lived for His glory, not our own.
The future is secure: We are being prepared for eternal life in His presence.
The journey is long, but it is a “full circle” moment when we realize that the God of glory is also the God who walks beside us. This is the purpose for which we were created: to live in the presence of the King, now and forever.
